On Wednesday 4 November 2026 you get two ballots (three in some local municipalities):
- Ward ballot: choose a person to be your ward councillor.
- Party ballot (PR): choose a party for the rest of the council.
- District ballot: only outside the big metros, a party for the district council.
You can vote for different parties on each ballot.
Disclaimer
- This is a fun personal project to help voters. It was not made for, paid for by or affiliated with any political party, candidate or the IEC.
- The information on this site was collected and summarised by an AI model (Claude Opus 5.5) from public sources. It may be incomplete, out of date or wrong. Please verify anything you rely on yourself, using the source linked on each point, and use the IEC for official candidate lists.
- Party summaries and ward plans currently cover the Western Cape only. Elsewhere you'll see candidate lists only.
- If you find a mistake, please report it with evidence: a link to a source that shows the correct information.
How reports are handled
- Every report is checked by hand against the evidence given. Content changes only when a reliable source supports the change, so sending a report doesn't guarantee a change. Checking can take a few days.
- For a party's position, the party's own manifesto or official statements count for more than news coverage of them. For candidates, the IEC's certified list is final.
- Nothing is removed just because someone objects to it, including a party. Where reliable sources disagree, both are shown with their dates.
- Every change is listed under Corrections below, and changed items are marked "Corrected".

About this guide
- Candidates come from the IEC's certified lists. Ward plans are candidates' own public statements about their ward, quoted from a linked source and checked against that page.
- Party summaries are paraphrased from each party's 2026 manifesto, using the same headings for every party, with a source on every point.
- Order is random for every visitor. The map is never coloured by party.
- Privacy: we run no analytics and keep no personal data. An address you type is sent to OpenStreetMap's Nominatim service to find it (their privacy policy). Map tiles come from OpenFreeMap, which can see your IP address and the area of the map you view, including your ward after a search or "Use my location". Your quiz answers and map preference are kept only in this browser.
